Mr. Meier has been assisting clients with estate planning, long term care planning, elder law, trust administration, and probate matters since 1985. Mr. Meier grew up in Albany, Georgia where he spent most of his early years working on the family farm. Mr. Meier graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia where he received degrees in Agronomy and Agricultural Economics.
After graduating, Mr. Meier was employed by the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as an Economic Research Assistant. While working with families and businesses throughout Georgia, Mr. Meier observed the devastating effect that failing to make appropriate plans can have. In 1982, Mr. Meier enrolled in Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law and received his Juris Doctor Degree in 1985.
Mr. Meier returned to Albany, Georgia and began his legal career, ultimately focusing his practice on comprehensive estate planning, Wills and Trusts, and probate and trust administration. After ten years of private practice, Mr. Meier joined Security Bank and Trust in Albany (now Synovus Bank) as a Vice President and became a Trust Officer for Synovus Trust Company. While with Synovus, Mr. Meier continued to concentrate his efforts to assist individuals and their families with their estate planning and their probate and trust administration needs. During this time, Mr. Meier became a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor, which is a nationally recognized certification, distinguishing him among his peers.
Mr. Meier returned to private law practice in 2006 and moved with his family to Cherokee County, Georgia where he was a partner at another law firm in Canton, Georgia and has also served as an Associate Magistrate Judge for Cherokee County. In 2019, Mr. Meier opened his own firm and in May of 2020 merged with Flint, Connolly & Walker, LLP. Mr. Meier heads up the firm’s Estate Planning and Probate Divisions and continues to focus his efforts assisting individuals and families with their estate planning, long term care, elder law, probate, and trust administration needs.
Mr. Meier currently serves as the City Attorney for Waleska, Georgia, is a member of the Elder Law and Fiduciary Law Sections of the State Bar of Georgia, and has been named to Georgia’s Legal Elite and Atlanta Magazine’s Top Wealth Managers. Mr. Meier has previously served as President of the Board of Directors for Easter Seal of Southwest Georgia, President of the Board of Directors of River House, Inc., President of the Board of Directors of Saint Teresa’s Catholic School, a Board Member for Flint River Habitat for Humanity, and a member of the Rotary Club of Albany and Rotary Club of Canton.
When not working, Mr. Meier enjoys spending time with his wife, Lacy, their children, spouses, and grandchildren. In his free time, Mr. Meier enjoys all types of fresh and saltwater fishing, especially fly fishing and competitive tournament bass fishing.
